SUPER BOWL BOUND!
PHOTO FROM TIMES-PICAYUNE

Ellen: I stand corrected! It just felt like forever. I did most of the stitching and set it aside to avoid putting it together. When I finally did, it was simple.

GO SAINTS!

IT'S FINISHED. I LOVE IT!

After two years in storage, I pulled out Ellen Chester's/ With My Needle's "Fair Maiden's Etui" and finished it. I don't know why I waited so long. It actually took longer to put it together than to stitch it, but it was worth it. The only thing I really changed was the verse on the bottom. I wanted to include a verse of scripture, my initials and the date.

Putting it together wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought. I did have trouble using a curved needle, so I ended up taking the bottom apart and attaching the scissors keep to the lining and then re-sewing them together.

I wouldn't change anything else-----except the pink bows. I'm not a "bow" person, but I admit they add a little something to the etui. The pearl ruler weights it's side a bit. Nah, I wouldn't change anything.

Here's this month's addition to the TUSAL. Lots of goodies! I've been working on some ornies and a couple of biscornus. Donna's quilt square for SFAC. An exchange, which is on it's way to it's new home. And I'm finally completing my etui (after only two years of sitting in a box: the etui, not me!).

Then there's the ornament SAL for Little House Needleworks. The second in the series is "Pear Tree". The extra one is from a pattern in a JCS mag. I've enjoyed stitching these little things. So easy and the finishing is a breeze. I used fabby and freds from my stash.,

Now it's time to settle in for some stitching. The Saints will be on in about 45 minutes. We all down here consider them our team. This is the first playoff game. Who dat? Geaux Saints!

GOIN' FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP!

This is it, folks! In three hours Alabama will be playing Texas for the National Championship in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl. Needless to say, we are a bundle of nerves here. It was unexpected for us to do this well this year, but here we are. The best of luck to both teams, but the best team-mine- will win.

I have a huge bet going with Donna. I'm gonna love using that fabby. If I should lose-not- she'll get a goodie bag of stitchy stuff from Diane's at Cross Stitch Corner.

We getting the food ready: Louisiana boiled shrimp, Sister Schubert's rolls (lots of them), lemon pie. Appetites are not really big right now, but will pick up as nerves hit real high.

David bought a new hi def tv yesterday so we'll be watching in style. Josh Groban is singing the National Anthem. So.............let the game begin.

HELLO, 2010!

I'm glad this past year is over! It wasn't a bad one, but it wasn't a good one, either. So now we all have a chance to "start over". I don't make resolutions, but I do have "ideas", so maybe I will be able to accomplish what I start to do.

I have declared this to be "The Year of the Smalls". I'm going to indulge my love of biscornus. And ornies. Maybe a pinkeep or two. Nothing like instant gratification! I'm going to have a major project at hand for when my attention span goes out the door-maybe Summer Ball, Justine or something I already have. So.....out with the old and in with the new.

The year started with a bang on Saturday. I won a prize! And what a prize. It's from YoYo at Dragon My Needle. A great chart-we all know I love quakers- some thread, scissors and needle. Thanks a million, YoYo!. It was a drawing from the Totally Useless Sal.

Now for some 2009 finishes.

Some biscornus, of course. Two are from the GOS and the tiny Christmas biscornu is from a JCS ornament issue. The biscornu on the upper right is from a chart I purchased at 3 Stitches in Houston. All are done with fabby and freds from my stash.

And here is my pride and joy. It's a pagoda, stitched from a pattern in GOS. It looks complicated but was really easy to stitch and complete. The only criticism: I used the colors called for and DMC 115 is the red color. Never again!  It stains, especially if you remove stitches. I'm looking forward to doing more. Even the beading was easy, if you can believe that.

Well, that's the beginning! This Thursday is a big one: my team-and we all know which it is-plays Texas for the national championship. I'll be sitting right here, stitching and cheering them on. The weather has turned COLD here-supposed to sleet and snow Thursday night. And this is the Deep South!!! I'm guessing it will be pretty good weather in Pasadena. The team is already there-made a trip to Disneyland yesterday. I can just see Mount Cody on some of those rides.

Until next time: HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all and I hope it brings you all the best.
