STITCHIN' AND READIN', READIN' AND STITCHIN'

I'm still alive, although this weather down here is killin' me. It was 29 last night and in the 60's now. And every couple of days it rains. For this to be the Deep South, it feels like the North Pole.

Which has been a good excuse to stay inside and read and stitch. And practicing my music. For all you Janeites- there is the VERY first sequel to Pride & Prejudice. I ordered it from Amazon and it was a pretty good read. It's Old Friends and New Fancies by Sybil G. Brinton. It was written in 1913-the year my daddy was born- and published in 1914, the year my mother was born. She took characters from all Austen's books and put them into this one novel. I'm glad I spent the time with it.

On the stitchy side:  first comes the TUSal. This month's additions were very colorful. because of the word trees I've been stitching:

Next comes the LHN ornaments. "He's A Flake" is the month's choice and "Winter Sampler" is one I took from a JCS Christmas book. 2009, I think. Flake was done on fabby, freds and beads as called for. Sampler was stitched from my stash.

And last but not least, a couple of oldies but goodies. Both were stitched a LONG time ago.The rose was done on aida, which should tell how long ago it was stitched. I finished it as a pinkeep. The other work of art is the Sampler Girl Austen piece that I spilled Cherry Coke Zero on. I eventually tea-dyed it and it came out pretty okay. I added the blue fabric matting and stapled it to stretcher strips from an art department. I finished the edges with edging from Hobby Lobby (same place I got the stretchers! BTW).

So this is my life lately. I feel really creative! I'm finally finishing projects I started long ago. And trying to come up with different ideas for finishing them.

Every one take care. It's almost Spring. Some of our little bushes and trees are starting to bloom. Not sure what will happen after the hard freeze last night.

See ya' later!

AN EPISTLE

Well......what a busy few days! Last Sunday the Saints marched to victory. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. And Tuesday is the major holiday here: Mardi Gras ("throw me sumthin', Mister). But I've managed to keep up with my stitching. And......we had snow yesterday. Great big flakes. Didn't stick too long, but what an occasion here in the Deep South.

Exchanges first. I'm participating in the Lizzie Kate Exchange, which is so fun. I've just signed up for the next round.  Here are the pictures.  First is my exchange for Mare and second is hers for me. I love it!  It's a little bag in just the right colors for an old red head. And it gave me a great idea for my granddaughters. As a matter of fact, I've already bought the little denim bags. Mare included some of her hand-made rose pins. Yellow ones-just perfect since I have a son and family who live in Texas.

And for some of my finishes. Since this is a "small" year, these are small!  First is a flaming heart ornie I stitched since February is Heart Month. It's really in memory of those in my mother's family who have died of the disease and to remember those of us remaining who have inherited the disease.

The other two are in honor of big doin's in my neck of the woods. The fleur de lis is, of course, for Mardi Gras. It's in the MG colors: purple, green and gold. It's a new chart by Ink Circles. The other is for my team, the Saints, who are the Super Bowl champs.

The big weather news is that it snowed yesterday. It's not unusual for my hometown (Tuscaloosa, Alabama), but is not too common around here. We had ample warning so we were prepared. Schools were dismissed  Friday. The snow had melted by early afternoon, so I did make it to Hancock's for supplies to finish some stitching. I don't mind the snow. It's the freezing weather that come with it. Here are some snaps I made through windows.

The last is a little visitor who warmed himself outside the back door. It's an adorable little brown dove. DH and I hoped that Gisele wouldn't drop by for a visit- and a meal. She didn't!
